Sweet Chilli Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 500g (1 lb) chicken breast or thigh, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg (optional, for binding)

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Sweet Chilli Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup sweet chilli sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice

  • 1 tsp grated garlic (optional for extra flavor)

  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)

Optional Garnish:

  • Sesame seeds

  • Spring onions, chopped

  • Red chilli slices

🔪 Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:

    • In a bowl, combine chicken pieces with cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and egg (if using). Mix well to coat evenly.

  2. Fry the Chicken:

    • Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 4-5 mins per batch).

    • Drain on paper towels.

  3. Make the Sauce:

    • In a separate pan or wok, combine sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce, honey, vinegar, garlic, and ginger.

    • Heat over medium heat until it starts to bubble and slightly thicken (2-3 minutes).

  4. Toss Chicken in Sauce:

    • Add the crispy chicken to the pan and toss to coat well in the sauce.

  5. Serve:

    • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions. Serve hot with rice or noodles.
