🧀 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (or pasta of choice)

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: ½ cup grated Parmesan or Gruyère for extra flavor

  • Optional topping: ½ cup breadcrumbs + 1 tbsp melted butter

🍴 Instructions:

  1. Boil the Pasta:
Cook macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. Make the Roux:
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes until golden.

  3. Add Milk & Cream:
Slowly pour in the milk and cream while whisking to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens (about 5 minutes).

  4. Add the Cheese:
Lower the heat and stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  5. Combine Pasta & Cheese Sauce:
Mix cooked pasta into the sauce until evenly coated. Transfer to a baking dish if desired.

  6. Optional: Bake for Crispy Top:
Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the top. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown
    .

💡 Tips for the Best Mac & Cheese:

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for a smoother melt.

  • Don’t overcook the pasta — it continues to cook in the sauce.

  • For a flavor twist, add bacon bits, jalapeños, or a pinch of paprika.
